• cucurullo brillo brullo & the muffin men:

  • yes, two bands. and i didn't know about that.  i only new about the muffin men playing in lint.
    cucurullo brillo brullo opened and sounded OK.  nice vocals and excellent guitar playing.  i had only seen the band once about a year earlier and they had improved a lot.
    next were the muffin men.  superb as ever.  they had brought along jimmy carl black to do some vocal stuff and i have to say that jimmy still rocks!!
    great gig: fine concerts, saw some friends, bought jimmy's cdrs, ... quite a night.

  • jimmy carl black has been busy.  his record label, inkanish music, has been producing a lot of albums lately.  the first one is an anthology.  the second and third one as well, i guess. but the last four present new recording by the fabulous jack and jim duo.  on cdr, but sounding really good (and jim did a nice job on the packaging as well)

• steffen moddrow: moddrow's chambers

                                                                      incl.'the black page' (f.zappa)
  • german composer, musician, text- and performance-artist steffen moddrow is part of behind the mirror and has performed with jimmy carl black on various occasions.  he is also one of the people behind the momus project. "moddrow's chambers" is limited edition book plus cd that presents some of his texts and musical performances.  not just audio, but also video-fragments are included.  i haven't seen the video part yet, but i really like what i've heard so far.

  • scandinavian band half man recorded frank zappa's 'willie the pimp' on their latest album.  heavy guitars, and sounding as if they're from the seventies.
    
• shusha: shusha / this is the day
      (2001, cd, uk, beat goes on) - incl.'this is the day' (van vliet)
  • born in 1940 in teheran, iran, shusha moved to paris, france, at age 16 to study oriental languages and philosophy.  it was het training as an opera singer that made her decide to become a professional entertainer.  shusha relocated to london in the mid-1960s, and released her first album in 1972.  her fourth album included don van vliet's 'this is the day', reissued in 2001 on cd. i had never heard the original album, so i was glad to find out about the cd-release.
