the cordells
from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives,
vol.4" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"The Cordells were a little-known group that cut four tracks at Pal, two of which
(“Sand Flea” and “Down Under”) are lost. The two surviving tracks,
“Happy Time” and “I Love How You Love Me,” formed a Daytone release
produced by Irvin (Dave Aerni) and Curry (Frank Zappa) in January 1964. “Happy
Time” is included on this volume. It is quite possible that members of this
group evolved into the Daytone group The Pharos, which became The Rhythm
Surfers."
from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives,
vol.5" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"The Cordells’ “Happy Time” was on the previous volume, and now we have its
B-side – “I Love How You Love Me.” Considering how raucous the A-side was,
a relaxed instrumental version of “I Love How You Love Me” was a big
surprise. The Paris Sisters had a big hit with the song in 1961. Like the
A-side, “I Love How You Love Me” was produced by Curry (Frank Zappa) and
Irvin (Dave Aerni)."
from "Dave
Aerni Presents The Best Of The Aertaun, Daani, Ador & Daytone Labels"
liner notes by Greg Russo:
"The next two releases involved Aerni and Zappa working together at Pal
Studios. Conrad And The Hurricane Strings’ “Hurricane”/ “Sweet Love”
and The Cordells’ “Happy Time”/ “I Love How You Love Me” were both
released in January 1964. The Conrad single appeared on Daytone, while the
Cordells single turned up on Aerni’s Ador label. “Hurricane,” reissued a
few months later on Era, was sampled by Zappa as part of his album “Lumpy
Gravy.”"
