ron roman
from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives,
vol.1" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"One
of Frank Zappa's earliest serious vocal numbers was "Love Of My Life."
The original recording was sung by Ray Collins, but this version (with revised
lyrics by Dave Aerni) was sung by local vocalist Ron Roman. It was released on
Dave Aerni's Daani label in July 1963. This was Roman's first recording, and he
turned up later in the '60s as the lead vocalist of Proposition and The Mystic
Astrologic Crystal Band.
from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives,
vol.3" liner notes by Greg Russo:
Another Aerni
release, this time on his Daani label, was "Tell Me" by Ron Roman.
Contrary to common perception, "Tell Me" was the A-side, with the
flipside "Love Of My Life" appearing on Volume 1. Kenny Williams,
brother of Ronnie, wrote "Tell Me." Roman also cut the track
"Please Tell Me They're Lying" at the same session, but no remnants of
that recording exist today. "
from "Dave
Aerni Presents The Best Of The Aertaun, Daani, Ador & Daytone Labels"
liner notes by Greg Russo:
"Ron Roman was a local singer that Dave Aerni produced to do the single
“Tell Me”/ “Love Of My Life.” Kenny Williams wrote the A-side, with
Frank Zappa providing the flipside. The record was released on the Daani label
in late July 1963. It sells for well over $500 if you can find one!"
