formerly known as 'het brt filharmonisch orkest' (the brt philharmonic orchestra), het vlaams radio orkest (the flemish radio orchestra) was founded in 1935. it is a symphonic orchestra of 90 musicians that has both a classical and a contemporary repertoire.
in 1998 the orchestra got separated from the national radio, hence the change of name.
november 2000, conducted by stefan asbury, they performed "zappa", 4 works by frank zappa (and one by bernstein) on three occasions.
