At a time when so many musicians are content merely to mirror the happiness and/or tragedies of the modern world in the standard format, Vai's passion for the visual medium has provided yet another outlet of expression. Cognizant of the existence of feelings such as joy, silliness, sadness, or reflection which are projected in film, he sought out to provide an aural glimpse thru his music, to enhance the theme of the pictures. Vai succeeds at this time and time again.

For sheer breathtaking facility on a guitar, Steve Vai is unmatched in the music world. But the things that fascinate and move Vai as an artist soar a million miles beyond the concerns of most archetypal guitar gods. Starting with his ground breaking "Passion and Warfare" album and throughout the years since, Vai has consistently used music as a microscope peering into the human spirit, with equal attention paid to both the darkest obsessions and the most exalted impulses contained therein.

Taken from "The Secret Jewel Box", "The Elusive Light and Sound Vol. 1" is a collection of music that Steve has contributed to film over the years. Included are such moments as the complete duel scene from Columbia Tri-Star Pictures "Crossroads" (including the previously unreleased duel with Shuggie Otis), plus Steve's inspired version of the Kinks' classic "Celluloid Heroes". Also gathered are tracks from "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey",  "Encino Man", "Dudes", and other films. Most
of the 40 tracks are commented on within the extensive CD liner notes written by Steve himself.

With his solo releases, contributions to film and music scores, and millions of records and concert tickets sold, Steve Vai continues to expand the horizons of modern music.

Favored Nations is proud to release "The Elusive Light and Sound Vol. 1" on June 4th of 2002. Order it online at favorednations.com!
