conrad & the hurricane strings / conrad & the hurricanes
Conrad & The Hurricanes, or Conrad & The Hurricane Strings recorded a single at Frank Zappa's Studio Z.
from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives,
vol.2" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"Pal
associate Dave Aerni first came by the studio in late 1962 when his management
client The Tornadoes wanted a different sound. The Tornadoes scored with their
first single "Bustin' Surfboards," but their follow-up, the two-part
single "The Gremmie," did not do well. The Tornadoes' output at Pal
will be covered throughout this series on other volumes.
Aerni
had four record labels going at once: Aertaun (The Tornadoes' label), Daani,
Daytone and Ador. Volume 2 kicks off with the Daytone release
"Hurricane" by Conrad And The Hurricane Strings. It was produced by
Curry (Frank Zappa) and Irvin (Aerni). This track from January 1964 was sampled
by Frank Zappa on his album "Lumpy Gravy." It is a classic of the surf
genre."
from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives,
vol.3" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"As a
sideline to his Pal activities, Dave Aerni used the pseudonym Jack Irvin when
producing tracks for his Daytone label. Frank Zappa also had a pseudonym - Curry
- when he co-produced these Daytone releases. The A-side of Conrad And The
Hurricane Strings' sole Daytone release, "Hurricane," was on Volume 2.
This volume includes the record's B-side, "Sweet Love." Both sides of
the record were written by rhythm guitarist Ed Sigarlaki."
from "Dave
Aerni Presents The Best Of The Aertaun, Daani, Ador & Daytone Labels"
liner notes by Greg Russo:
"The next two releases involved Aerni and Zappa working together at Pal
Studios. Conrad And The Hurricane Strings’ “Hurricane”/ “Sweet Love”
and The Cordells’ “Happy Time”/ “I Love How You Love Me” were both
released in January 1964. The Conrad single appeared on Daytone, while the
Cordells single turned up on Aerni’s Ador label. “Hurricane,” reissued a
few months later on Era, was sampled by Zappa as part of his album “Lumpy
Gravy.”"
