ensemble modern

The Ensemble Modern has performed Frank Zappa's music on various occasions.

September 17 - 19, 1992, the ensemble, conducted by Peter Rundel, performed Zappa's "The Yellow Shark" at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Germany. Frank Zappa attended the concerts and conducted one piece.

The picture on the right shows the program booklet for this event.

In 2002, Jonathan Stockhammer became the director of the ensemble. With Jonathan Stockhammer, the ensemble recorded "Ensemble Modern Plays Frank Zappa - Greggery Peccary & Other Persuasions".

The Frank Zappa / Ensemble Modern collaboration was documented on various albums: "The Yellow Shark", "Civilisation Phaze III", "Everything Is Healing Nicely", and "Greggery Peccary & Other Persuasions."

the ensemble modern are still very active.  their home page is at:
http://www.ensemblemodern.com/, and it contains full biographies of each member.  it's worth checking out.  (also see mark beam's story; he created the shark.)

they performed on the album the rage & the fury, which is a tribute to the music of edgard varese.  this is a supposedly a fully finished album, sitting in the zappa vault, pining to be released to the public.
other treasures we can hope for in the future could include a home video of a yellow shark performance, and a documentary called aaafnraa; kind of a video counterpart to everything is healing nicely.
