Around 1986, Christophe Petchanatz (of Klimperei fame) had a band called Deleted. Their "Well" album, that they released on tape, has been reissued on CDR. |
|
20060128 | |
French label Underground Productions has re-released the first Klimperei
tape (from 1987) on cdr. The Klimperei website says: This music is often described as « toy-music, naïve, acoustic, experimental, minimal, childish, neo-classic, bizarre, avant-garde, lunaire... French toy-pop. » And who am I to argue with that.
I like it. It took me to places where I hadn't been before. |

THE RUDY SCHWARTZ PROJECT |
|
Remember that I told you that you could order new material from the Rudy
Schwartz Project? Well, I've got some good news and I've got some bad news. The bad news is that Joe Newman (aka RSP) isn't making any new music; the good news is that he is making some of his older material available on CDR. And some of it hadn't been released before.
A reissue of the famous album from 1990 on Musical Tragedies. Essential stuff.
This is really nice. It's some sort of 'best of' album, like one big puzzle with all the different songs pasted into one big piece.
This is the early RSP material. Dating back to 1984, it gives a nice idea what Joe's first tapes sounded like.
If you want to listen to one album by RSP, you have to try "Don't
Get Charred... Get Puffy!". Originally released as a CD on the German
Musical Tragedies label in 1992, this album is a classic. This is excellent stuff. Volume two also includes a little dittie that was recorded in 2005 ! As Joe says in the liner notes: "...what may well be the last gasp of the Rudy Schwartz Project." Snakefinger and Zappa fans will love 'Man In The Dark Sedan' as recorded by Joe Newman on his 4-track, and 'Pygmy Twylyte' performed by The Politicians, both from around 1984.

Frank Zappa on the cover of French "Best" magazine, dated
february 1978. Archive material. It's a funny interview as the journalist probably had to guess how he had to write the names of the new bandmembers. Please meet Tony Mars, Adrien Balloo and Pat O' Haren... But besides that, it's an interesting article. |

The latest Mattias Eklundh album made me listen back to the albums that he made with Freak Kitchen. As you may know, Freak Kitchen is a rather heavy band. It's hardrock with Eklundh on stunt guitar. Nothing like a dose of Freak Kitchen on a Sunday morning. The band has performed Frank Zappa's 'My Guitar Wants...' in concert, but unfortunately never released it on album. Here's the discography, including pictures.

Re:Invented and they will be hitting the stage in 2006 in the United
States, Europe In their January 1997 issue, the editors of GUITAR PLAYER magazine voted Miroslav Tadic one of the world's thirty most radical and individual guitarists. Tadic completed his formal education in the United States after studying in Italy and his native Yugoslavia. He has performed and recorded in a wide variety of settings and musical styles, ranging from music of the Baroque and Classical periods to blues, jazz, and rock. Tadic's
performing and recording credits include projects with: He is frequently heard in Europe, Japan and the United States. In 1986 Miroslav met drummer Mark Nauseef and the master of sound sculpting and recording Walter Quintus. Their collaboration has resulted in a great number of recordings and projects, which continue today and into the future. In recent years Tadic has concentrated on developing an approach to improvisation which combines and juxtaposes musical material drawn from many diverse sources, including Baroque, European classical and North Indian classical music, Eastern European folk traditions, blues, jazz, and rock. He is noted for his pioneering work in applying the elements of classical and flamenco techniques to the electric guitar. Miroslav's numerous recordings on ENJA Records, CMP Records, M.A Recordings, Omagatoki and Third Ear Music labels have won international critical acclaim. He has written music for a number of award-winning experimental film, theater, and dance works. Since 1985 he has been teaching at California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. Hi Gang, Well, the holidays are over but the party is just
beginning. After an exciting 2005 it looks like Bogus Pomp will be even
busier in 2006. The following dates are booked:
In addition the following plans are being discussed: Zappaween in St. Petersburg possibly with an ex-Zappa
band member you all know We are trying to pull off another "big"
event. Discussions are underway for a Bogus Pomp Orchestra show here with
an attempt to try to do the show elsewhere too. Also it looks like BP may
play Zappanale in Germany in 2007. To make these extra events happen we are looking to
once again raise funds that will cover the loss that the band incurs.
Traveling expenses for rehearsals and the hiring of additional musicians
takes money that is not covered by ticket sales. We have been fortunate
that individuals stepped up and provided financial support over the last
two years to allow the band to continue. I think that almost everybody who
donated the first year were repeats last year. And we are lucky the core
band plays for what amounts to be peanuts! So, we are looking for sponsors and at this time we can
offer the following: For a $200 contribution you get- 1- Two priority admissions to the State Theater show
January 21. You will get in early to grab the balcony or front floor area. 2- Two admissions to the Java Junction February 18
show. (We can't offer any deal for the April 8 show as BP is playing as
part of a show with other bands controlled by a promoter.) 3- Purchase priority for any of the other shows that
may be booked. 4- At times we have given out special goodies like
shirts and Zappanale DVD's. 5- And general satisfaction that you helped keep Zappa
music alive! Checks should be payable to "Bogus Pomp Fund"
and sent to me at: Fred Hemmer All money that has been collected has been used to
support band expenses and rehearsals only. If anybody has any questions please contact me. Thanks for your support, --
Fred |

Oscar Bianco was kind enough to send the data for the latest Ossi Duri album:
|
|
For me, the latest edition of the Zappanale festival in Bad Doberan was an absolute highlight of 2005. One of my finest memories is having a relaxed chat with Michael Krampe, guitar player and mastermind of Weirdo Naffn. Not only did Weirdo Naffn give a remarkable performance, Michael turned out to be a great chap as well. If you're in for some laid-back, progressive rock, you should give Weirdo Naffn a try. Just listen to that guitar tone... As some sort of X-mas present, the Weirdo Naffn site has a bunch of tracks available as mp3 downloads. So check it out. The band has a number of CDRs available as well. Zappa is never far away.

DRUMBO AND ROCKETTE RECORDING NEW MATERIAL |
|
audihaun says: "I recently received a message from John Drumbo French to update me on progress with his new recordings" So here Rockette and I are at Proper Record's wonderful new studio
recording my new CD "City of Refuge" which is basically a Magic
Band influenced compilation of music I've put together over the last year
and a half. I'm listening to Rockette put a bass line on a song called "Maybe
That'll Teach Ya" which is based loosely on a jam that was done by
Don, Doug Moon, and myself. I used the Moon riff and Don's line
"Maybe That'll Teach Ya" and wrote a whole song around it about
the futility of revenge. It's a more bluesy kind of simple piece. I don't think Mark or I have ever sounded better together. This has
been a lot of fun and I'm sure that Beefheart fans will be pleased as this
will fill a particular need for new fresh material in the style of the
Magic Band. I started getting these ideas about six months into the
project, I suppose, as a result of the complete saturation I was
undergoing to achieve a reasonable MB sound. So, just thought I'd update you. Gotta go, John French |
